Brebeufian of the Week: Pure Garcia

Reverie Pure Garcia. who would forget her? she's the black mamba of the brebeuf class in the freshmen and sophomore years. but leaving in the middle of 2nd year high was tragic yet victorious. armed with confidence and vengeance against the chalk-throwing-monster-teacher (haha) she became the reason why i had to put up with my mom as asubstitute teacher. but yeah, things happen for a reason. she transferred to another school bringing her identity as a brebeufianne and soared her way to the top.

She might have been gone in the rest of our high school years but her legacy remained. she played jasmine in our freshmen presentation. think about the hits called "ang islang taiwan.." and "20 million ang populasyon ng taiwan" ahaha. remember the "toshiro.. bene ki, porke bo ta kome lodo?" skit? that and more made her one brebeufian we could never put aside.

She was never prodigal. she has always been part of the class... away but always there. on her 29th birthday, let's honor the brebeufianne who dared... read on and see what's pure is up to these days!

Status: Single and Engaged
Occupation: Lawyer

Any accomplishments since high school?

Let’s see, I got accepted in UP Diliman and majored in BA Pol Sci. I played basketball for the ladies’ team at both my dorms – Kalayaan (in my freshman year) and Ilang-Ilang (for my remaining years in UP). Ya tumba pa nga yo and scraped my left leg… I became an officer in certain orgs, the most notable of which was the UP University Student Council where I served as Councilor. And then I went to law school (San Beda) and passed the 2006 Bar. And ofcors, I lost a lot of my baby fat and became the sexy Pure I am today. hehe.

What's your position at work? Tell us more about your work.

I’m an ASSOCIATE LAWYER at the De Leon & Desiderio Law Firm in Ortigas. Si cosa man kamo ta mira na tv that lawyers do, amo kel mi trabaho. But it’s not as glamorous as you think. Some court judges are really nasty and they shout at lawyers every now and then. Fortunately, I have not suffered that indignity yet. And when you’re in court, just argue away. It doesn’t matter if you’re wrong or right – the truth has many versions anyway.

Describe high school in one word.
Ateneo – Bitin. I didn’t get the chance to get to know everyone kasi.
Pilar College – Blessing. That’s because a lot of good things came my way when I transferred there. I met a lot of good people and made good friends.

How did you become good friends with Dino Dano?

Hehe. I know all of you are somewhat surprised as to why Dino and I are now good friends. As you must probably remember, back in high school, I didn’t like him very much. In fact, I didn’t like him at all! Kasi he was so makulit! Dol chene bulati!

I met Daño again when he enrolled for law review in Beda. It’s been years since I last saw him kaya nga when I noticed him from the crowd of students at Beda’s auditorium entrance, I happily approached him to say hello. We exchanged numbers and then I told him if there was anything he needed, he can text me.

We had 5 months to prepare for the bar and you can only imagine how boring it got sometimes to be studying at home the whole day. E, I live alone pa nmn in my apartment kaya I had no one to talk to except for my dog. That’s why sometimes I would call Dino to check on how far he was with his readings and to chismis lang for a while. On the week before the 3rd or 4th Sunday of the bar (I don’t exactly remember), I invited Dino to sleepover at my house so we can study together. He happily obliged. Nuay kel malisya guys! But I don’t know with Daño si chene. hehe. He occupied one sofa, and I stayed in my own corner. We stayed up until the wee hours of the morning. There were times pensaba le I was still reading pero durmido ya gale yo kel. We would buy our meals at the nearby carinderia, and so far he liked the food there. He was supposed to stay for a nyt lang, but I think he liked my place very much and if I may add he liked the host even more (hahahaha!) that he decided to stay for another day. That’s how our friendship started.

Most memorable moment?

Our first ever presentation during the freshman orientation where our class sang “A Whole New World.” Edmar was Alladin, si Gafar el genie, and I was Princess Jasmine.

Most embarassing moment?

Akel when my bra or back got exposed on stage while playing Sister Luisa in a play. Si Ivan Gorda was my leading man, and he played the part of Ramon. Bien crush pa gat kel kunele si Pamela that time.hehe. Anyway, si Filipino Estacio if you remember was Mother Superior, and when he pulled my dress, the buttons popped open.

Sinong favorite person mo sa high school? Crush? Teacher?

Edmar cguro because we were friends since grade school and we attended a lot of out-of-school activities together.

Crush? Does this have to be our classmate? Kasi nuay e. I was still getting over my gradeskul crush with Earl. Hehe.

For fave teacher, Ms. Hong. U never forget your first moderator in high school diba? But I would like to add Sir Mike Lopez who was our adviser in COL. He was a very nice guy. Kabar gwapo pa. hehe And also Mr. Ramos because I enjoyed our practical arts classes very much.

Is there something you want to change sa high school experience?
Yes. I would not have allowed Randy Jay to sing my “Ang Islang Taiwan ay nasa hilaga ng, hilaga ng bansang Pilipinas…” composition, because to this day he sings it to me each time we meet and it drives me crazy. Hehehe = )

What can you say about the reunion last 2007?

I had so much fun. Ya perde yo P50 (or was it P100?) na poker, but it was all worth it. It was wonderful being in the company of old friends and classmates. Thank you gale for inviting me.

Describe your first date.

Di mio first date was horrible kay nukere yo kun di mio date. Ya porsa lang kasi kel disu ate kumigo to date him. E she was my friend that’s why I agrid.

What's the name of your boyfriend/fiance?

His name is Albert D. Sapaen, Jr. Friends and family call him Dong. He is currently an Area Sales Manager of UPS (United Parcel Service), an American company providing international courier services.

So, how's your relationship with him?

It’s good. We’re wacky and happy. Lukuras lang pirmi. Poreso impure ya yo ara. Pero not so much. Umpoko lang. Hehehe. We love to eat kahit saan and watch movies as do most couples. On a more serious note though, Dong is someone I can to talk to about anything. He understands me and has stood by me through the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly.

When is the big day?

It will be on September 19 this year.

If you were stuck in an island, with only one item to bring, what will it be?

Probably my rosary because it will be the only thing that will make me feel safe there.

Still stuck on the island, which classmate would you like to be stuck with?

Randy Jay cguro so that we can happily sing my famous song together while waiting for help, and hopefully be able to compose a new one about the island we’re stuck in. Pwede tamen kun Ivan because he seems like such a gentleman, and he will probably look for food and firewood and all that stuff. Besides, according to my sister Gizanne, Kuya Ivan was very nice to them during her ACIL days in Ateneo. Numas kun Daño kay chene kel hidden desire kumigo. He myt gahasa me while we’re there. hahahaha! Pero c nuay classmate, pwede kun Sir Ramos ya lang baka pwede pa le man build raft and we can both sail home together.

A genie in a bottle grants you 3 wishes, what would they be?

1. Travel back in time.
2. To have Oprah’s fame, fortune and influence.
3. To have a Transformer for a car.

Describe yourself using the letters of your name.

P- purpyaw (in a good way especially in court)
U- ulbidona
R- ready for anything
E- entertaining (?) I wanted to say funny but my name doesn’t have an F.

So how do you see yourself 10 years from now?

Sana, I would have my own law firm na by then. Tas at least 2 kids and a happy marriage. And also have my own non-profit organization that’s geared towards helping the poor and making Zamboanga a safer and more prosperous place to live in.

Ok, last na. Message to the Brebeuf Roots.

Hey guys, I wish you all the best in life. If you need a lawyer, give me a call. = )

Brebeufian of the Week: Gafar Lakibul

It has been more than a year, I think, since I last had an actual face-to-face conversation with this guy. Everybody knows how particularly close we were - or, I hope, we still are. Everybody knows him as THE ROCK, THE CAVE, GAFARUT, GAF, the guy who called up half the girls in highschool and made telebabad with them... But for me, he will always remain the guy who proved to me that friendship surpasses the most biggest mistake one can ever do. Being one of my very closest friends, Gaf taught me that "Bawal ang Perfect". Hahaha... I missed this guy. I do hope to see him again soon.

So, for our post-Halloween special (hehe, joke), here is his long-awaitred interview. God knows, malamang outdated na ang information dito. Hahaha... Enjoy!

So, for our post-Halloween special (hehe, joke), here is his long-awaitred interview. God knows, malamang outdated na ang information dito. Hahaha... Enjoy!

Name: Gafar Shaid D. Lakibul
Status: Single (unattached and prefers to be)
Occupation: Team Leader

M: First question, what’s your job? Describe your occupation? What’s your position?
G: I'm a team leader of Convergy's Alabang. My account is DirecTV! But I'm training in Makati for TL Transformation. It's like a training school for Convergys Team Leaders. Just imagine that is like a summer camp for the BEST agents of CONVERGYS PHILIPPINES. 20 per class for every 4 months and after the training camp you would be a fully equipped Team Leader.

M: How much are you earning and how long have you been in the company?
G: Two years in the company… Salary? Secret... (laughs)

M: Aba! Vying for highest paid Brebeufian ka na rin ba? Hehe, joke… What was your job prior to that job? Di ba Physical Therapy graduate ka?
G: I'm a PT grad and after passing the boards, worked as a PT/CI at Cebu Doctor's College (CDC). Since CDC can't afford my talent fee, I resigned (laughs). And I was a bum for a year! Call center life started after Paul and I decided to go to Manila!

M: Any other accomplishments since highschool? Dean's Lister? Cum laude? Umamin na kasi!
G: After High School, I conquered the Visayas. I studied at Cebu Doctors’ College and took up Physical Therapy. Then I started studying, I mean, really study. More than what Randy and Ailyn were doing back in our high school days. I spent more hours in the library than the dorm. Not having to spend a lot of time at dorm is one of the things I regret because I missed a lot of exciting out-of-this-world happenings. Just to give you an idea, I stayed in the same dormitory with some of our cool high school batchmates like Ronald Lagat and Alfonso Enriquez (Pignateli), and our very own Christian Dino Daño. Now you have an idea of what’s happening in our everyday dorm life.

M: Na, I can just imagine… Next question na. What's your most memorable moment in highschool?
G: My answer could be MTM (Many To Mention, parang autograph… Let me mention the first one I remember. It is when Erjo (Ruste) and I were laughing our hearts out because Ma'am Toribio was using her middle finger while teaching adding letters (I still feel weird thinking about algebra, I mean, adding letters) but going back, then she asked me what we are laughing about. I just pointed out the window and said it is because of the parade outside… I'm so lucky that there was really a parade outside… and then she sent both of us parading to Mr. Sanchez’ office.

M: Your most embarassing moment in highschool?
G: My most embarrassing is my most memorable…. If Ma'am Toribio’s giving me a failing grade in MATH, does count, because I was so embarrassed to tell my mom about it.

M: Sinong favorite person mo sa highschool? Sagutin mo ito isa-isa, ha? Your favorite teacher? Your favorite classmate? And of course, your ultimate highschool crush? Bawal ang mambola.
G: My favorite person in high school would be Abby (Cristobal) . She is my phone pal (trained me to become what I am now, literally… laughs), my neighbor, supplier of our daily bread (not the religious one but the baked one) and the last person that “Bat Cave” brings home after any class night out…and finally my favorite classmate and ultimate crush would be the Editor-in-chief herself, my bestfriend, Mae Angelica Arevalo. More than half of my high school diploma has MAE all over it because she literally wrote every damn notes that I used to study during my entire high school time. Just like more than half of the Brebeuf, I photocopy every notebook she has for our Periodical exams (That's what we used to call them, right?)

M: Na, nambola nga talaga. Is there something you want to change sa high school experience? Wag kang sumagot ng wala! G: Hmmm… So, no "wala" as an answer… Then I need to look for something to change… Our small exclusive circle of friends that we had going during that time made us strangers to some of our classmates… And ganging up on some of our classmates just for the sake of a laugh was one of my priorities.

M: Describe your first date. With whom, what did you do, where, when, etc.
G: My first date is with my first girlfriend. She was my GF for 4 years. As in, serious, no 3rd party involved during the 4 years…It was in RED RIBBON, year 1997 2nd semester. I'm really sorry but that’s as far as I can remember. I can still remember her favorite cake though, Choco Mallows.

M: How's your lovelife? Please elaborate, ha?
G: Lovelife? If depends on how you look at it… If you consider that you have a constant companion and there is some caring involved, then I have someone right now. But your definition includes commitment and the saying of the “mushy things,” then, I don’t have lovelife (laughs) Weird, right?

M: At sino na naman itong new notch in your bedpost, aber? G: I met her at GOLD's GYM (I'm still fat up to now, though). She used the treadmill right beside mine so since she is attractive, I tried to strike a conversation and was successful. We went to Alabang Town Center and had dinner, exchange numbers, everything is history. But don't think and feel that I have a special someone. I consider her a special friend, and that's it.

M: Ahhh… so "special friend" na pala ang tawag sa mga ganun ngayon. And how's your sex life?
G: I don’t kiss and tell.

M: What’s your biggest sexual fantasy? G: What happens in my mind stays and remains there.

M: If you were stuck in an island, with only one item to bring, what will it be and why? G: My O2 (atom phone). I have my life there - my scheds, contacts, everything. But it will not work on the island. So, I think I would bring a boat? Logical, right? My BIKE! Cause I can't continue to live without my BIKE.

M: Still stuck on the island, which classmate would you like to be stuck with and why? G: Mae, cause we never run out of things to talk about…and we would enjoy updating our blogs and reading the surveys.

M: Next question na nga. A genie in a bottle grants you 3 wishes, what would they be? G: 1. Only Son of Bill Gates, 2. Brand New Ducati, 3. The most expensive house in the world

M: Describe yourself using the letters of your name. G: G – Ground-breaking, A – Aggressive, F – Friendly

M: How do you see yourself 10 years from now? G: Senior Manager of First call center in Zamboanga City.... Maybe I'll be happily married (but I dont know to whom) with just one kid (by choice and without any gender preference). If I cant settle down in Zamboanga, my second option is CEBU but never here in Manila.

M: Last na 'to. Message to the Brebeuf Roots. G: Let's touch base as often as we can. Let's support this blog and let's be involved.

You can contact Gaf through the following e-mail addresses: gaffy_08@yahoo.com, gafar@atenista.net, and gafar.lakibul@convergys.com (for important matters only because this is company email and everything is filtered).

Brebeuf Reunion Special

Sorry for the delay. It took Mae longer than expected to write this and it took me forever to post this. So kasalanan naming dalawa.

Brebeuf Reunion 2006

Article by Mae Arevalo

December 29, 2006 -- I was picked up at home by the boys (Al, Dino and Erjo) in Erjo’s car. Erjo is still the hottie that he is... My God, ba’t di ka ganyan nung highschool tayo? You would have made a lot of girls in our batch drool. Hehehe, joke.

We then picked up Janno at Tumaga Putik, honked at Myra and Almid’s houses and drove towards Alejandra’s. On the way, as Janno and I exchanged med rep stories (since he was after all a drug dealer in Cotabato), Dino, a newly licensed nurse still reeling from a very bad break-up, badgered me about prescribing him some sleeping pills… Pare, may death wish ka ba? Gusto mo na bang magpakamatay, ha? Kutsilyo na lang, mas mura pa. Pahihiramin kita.

At Alejandra’s, the early birds, Ailyn, Cabil, Derick and Jun were already there. Jun, a licensed architect, is now a whole lot muscular than he used to be (Malamang, naggigym na siguro!) and works at a huge architectural firm in Manila. Ailyn now works in Citibank and still remains the highest paid Brebeufian, I think. Unless Gafar earns more than she does. Hehehe…

Derrick left after a few minutes. God knows why. Basta ang alam ko, it had nothing to do with me, ha? Hehehe… While Ailyn and Cabil reminisced about Cheng’s wedding the night before (which of course, most of us weren’t invited... Hmp!), Randy Jay soon arrived, followed by the Poker boys, Dano, Betson and Alex. RJ still teaches at Ateneo de Manila, but can be seen in Zamboanga from time to time because of his visiting professor thingie in Ateneo de Zamboanga College. Betson was now married with one kid to the same girl he had been dating for years now. Yung from Dumaguete na look-alike daw ni Kaye. Hehehe… Si Dano, our future attorney, long hair. Mukhang nagparebond. Aminin!

While some dined, the others inquired as to the availability of the VIP Room. Asa pa kayo, everybody’s out on a Friday night, no?... It turns out, yes, wala ngang available. Carloe, after being sent a thousand text messages of “Where you?”, soon arrived. Carloe, who is a web designer, opened up to me the idea of putting up a blog for the class. Yes, dito po nagmula ang ideya ng Brebeuf Roots blog. I liked the idea but of course, hindi pa ako nagcommit back then. I wasn’t sure yet how he wanted it to be kasi.

Since the group was insistent for some privacy, we then chose to leave Alejandra’s, split up into smaller groups and drive to Park 88 in the hopes that they had a VIP room available for us.

Upon arriving at Park 88, we were surprised, or more like shocked really, at how jampacked it was. There was barely any empty table for us to seat. The VIP rooms were just as full as well so we had to wait until a room was free for us. We tried to get a table at the Café but was turned down instead. We stayed outside as well, but we didn’t find it conducive for poker. We ended up inside the restaurant with a table filled with half-eaten foods, used dishes and empty glassses. It took years before a waiter started clearing the table and another for them to take our orders. Before our orders had even arrived, our VIP room reservations had pushed through and so we left, without getting our drinks.

Sorry, tagal kasi ng service niyo.

It was a night for crazy singing, losing money and boisterous drinking. While half of the class was busy performing familiar songs on Videoke, the others were busy losing their hard-earned money playing poker. The pouring rain might have scrambled some of the neurons in my brain because I found myself belting out songs by Aegis. Jun was forever into alternative songs, as he sang his version of Rivermaya and Eraserheads covertunes. Cabil’s renditions of baduy songs were heartily dedicated to Erjo, who never gave him the time of the day. In other words, deadma as in, lang kunele si Erjo.

Geraldine and her ever present husband, Raymond, soon arrived, coming from their own office Christmas party. Geraldine, now working at City Hall, looked just as fresh and even sexier than she was in highschool. It’s no wonder, sigidito el mga anak di ila di Raymond. Obviously, pwerte pa siyempre el sexlife… Hahaha, joke lang, Din.

Due to the heavy downpour, a few minutes of brown-out interrupted the entire affair and we spent it drinking San Mig Light, consuming overpriced fried dishes and for some, still playing poker, by candlelight. The lack of appropriate lighting apparently did not deter some of our gambling aficionados.

A few hours later, Jenny and a very pregnant Nashieba arrived. Jenny, who still teaches at Ateneo de Zamboanga College, apparently came from a group date. Nashieba or rather, Mrs. Musa, was on her 9th month of pregnancy and will be delivering her second baby anytime soon.

It was almost 2 AM when we decided to go home. Despite the fact that the turn-out was a bit fewer than expected, we still obviously had a lot of fun. So where were Carms, Norman, Leila and Almid that night?

I honestly don’t know. Pakaro ya kasi se si Carms, ara. Hahaha, joke. As for the rest, ewan lang kosa ya pasa kanila.

One thing I do know is that the fun and games may have changed yet we are all still just as KEBRAW as we were back then.

See you guys next year! See gallery here.

Brebeuf Baby: Rianne Macatangay-Dela Paz

Name: Rianne Gwyneth Macatangay-Dela Paz
Nickname: Rianne
Birthdate: December 13, 2002
Parents: Geraldine Macatangay-Dela Paz & Raymond S. Dela Paz
Brebeuf god parents: Jeni Kwan & Carlo Esperat

When and where siya naconceive?
Summer of 2002 and definitely not in bed. (laughs)

Why Rianne Gwyneth?
Gwyneth kasi means "hapi, blessed". El Rianne ya gana lang through votation among college friends versus Rae and Reese. We want RG initials for girls and GR for boys.

What do you want her to be when she grows up?
I want her to explore her talents and be active in sports, the opposite of me. I want Rianne to be an Oncologist, you know our history naman diba? But it is up to her, she will decide when the time comes.

What were you feeling or thinking when you first held her?
I can't believe she came from me, I kept murmuring "she's so beautiful". She proved my worth, gave meaning to everything and took away all my fears and worries.

Brebeufian of the Week: Ernest Jo Ruste

He is one of the most amusing people in the class-- amusingly silent. Most might remember him for the super delicious brownies that his mom baked, or Carmela's seatmate or Edmar's cousin. Just that. We knew he was there and we didn't mind. But that was years ago.

Interview by Dino Mas & Carlo Esperat
Edited by Mark Cabil & Mae Arevalo

He is one of the most amusing people in the class-- amusingly silent. Most might remember him for the super delicious brownies that his mom baked, or carmela's seatmate or Edmar's cousin. Just that. We knew he was there and we didn't mind. But that was years ago.

He went to study in Manila that's why for most years, we heard stories about him taking Capoiera classes, not finishing school etc. We don't know what happened. It's time to catch up and maybe find something new and something more about Erjo Ruste in this short-but-sweet interview. By the way, those who have met Erjo recently realize and attest that we're now we're looking at a new improved Erjo-- a real hunk, hottie, and hearthrob! (and he's single!).

Name: Ernest Jo Ruste
Status: Single
Occupation: Computer Programmer

Dino: First question, are you single, engaged, in a serious relationship?
Erjo: Single.
D: How long has it been since your last relationship? Care to tell us what happened?
E: 1 year. Nah.. We're not compatible.
Carlo: So, are you currently dating anybody?
E: Nope, no steady date. Still single coz I simply haven't fallen for another girl yet. But I'm open to dating, if ever may opportunity.

D: Next… what's your job right now? Where?
E: Programmer. Accenture.
C: Kelan ka nagstart sa Accenture? Nag travel ka na ba because of work? Saan?
E: I started August 29, 2005. No travel yet, some of my more senior friends(senior by a few months lang) are being sent abroad pero sa batch namin wala pa. But even if I'll be offered I'm not sure if I'll accept kasi may dagdag sa bond yun. I have plans to apply in other more high-paying companies.
C: What language are you using with your current project?
E: We're under SAP, its language is ABAP, Advanced Business ApplicationProgramming.

D: What was your course in college and what school?
E: Computer management, Letran College.
D: Is this the course you wanted or you just didn't have a choice?
E: This is what I wanted. I like the challenge of using logic while making programs.
C: I never thought you were into programming, so how did you end up taking the course?
E: I like the challenge of programming, particularly the use of logic. It stimulates my brain. That was what I wanted originally when I applied in DLSU, but my parents wanted ECE. So yun, no interest and I didn't do well in the engineering subjects but I did well in the computer subjects (we had a few computer programming subjects) so I tried to shift to ComSci but I didn't get accepted so I transferred schools. I was supposed to transfer to UA&P but my parents decided at the last minute that it was too expensive in the long run, so Letran na lang.

D: Next, describe high school in one word.
E: Enjoy.
D: Chingga, bien one liner. Cosa bo telegrama?
E: One word gane… High ga bo.
C: Why "enjoy"?
Syempre enjoy coz we didn't have a lot to worry about, life was not so serious then, puro kalokohan n tawanan lang. It was a good time to have fun and be stupid. At that time I didn't really realize it yet, but compared to college and working life it seems so carefree and fun.

D: Next, most memorable moment in high school.
E: Ta pensa pa yo. Daw nway man.
D: Chingge, nuay gad bo kosa ta akorda de high school? Memorable and what's the most embarassing moment?
E: Nway gane. As a whole kasi… Embarassing ya lang akel ya perde ta na choral (laughs). 3rd year... Memorable ya lng akel yan send out kanamun di Gafar. Ta ri kame kay ta kopya si Gafar mga tan drums apuera. Toribio kel, Math class. Basta chene tan drums apuera, kabar pensaba gaha si Toribio kunele kame ta ri.

D: Who is your favorite person in high school?
E: Eh di si bespren Al (Shamir Jihay).

D: Who's your crush in high school?
E: Kaye (Ramos) and Cheng (Casimiro).
D: Why man bo yan crush kanila? Diba si Kaye debo classmate grade school?
E: Nusabe gane yo. (laughs) Eh di, kay chene sila itsura. They're kinda cute.. they're cute.

D: If you could go back in time, what would you change in your high school experience?
E: Pensa anay yo… None.

C: Since we are on the topic of high school, what can you say about your love tandem with Carmela? Do you know pano nagsimula yun?
E:
Wala yun, purely imbento. If im not mistaken si aileen nagstart nun. Parang nag "Uyyyy..." lang siya once, then naulit hanggang sa kumalat na. Pero no truth to that. Dagdag pa si Ghafar kasi pareho daw kami balbon, "contra pelo".

C: "Ang seatmate kong poste" - what do you remember about this?
E:
Chubby at malapad ako dati kaya parang poste daw ako, yun lang. I think started by Carlo Esperat. (Was it me? I don't remember actually. Haha. - Carlo)

C: Anong reaction mo sa mga kalokohan ni Mark sayo? Naiinis ka ba? Affected ka ba?
E:
Nope, wala lang yun. No problem, basta no touch lang.

C: How did you get into capoeira? Tell us more about this. Anong gustong gusto mo about it?
E:
I saw it in a movie on TV "only the strong" when I was in grade school yata. Then I recognized it in the videogame Tekken, so I learned how to play the character and I saw all his moves (motion-captured from a real capoeirista) and I was captivated by its beauty. I find it more beautiful to watch than kung fu or breakdancing or anything else, there's nothing like it (for me lang ha). I also like the fact that its not a common hobby, and I liked the challenge of learning the moves. So I looked in the net if there are capoeira groups here in Manila. As it
turns out, wala, but there was a group of capoeira enthusiasts and I joined them. We learned from videos and clips lang, and sometimes capoeiristas from other countries would visit us. Then we had a Pinay member who studied in Singapore and another from Canada so eventually we got enough attention to have a real mestre come and teach us under the EBC (Escola Brasileira de Capoeira) school, one of the biggest schools in Brazil. So our group became the manila branch of EBC.

D: Alright, describe your first date... with who, where, details.
E: Hmmmmmmm... Can't remember.

D: How's your love life now?
E: Non-existent.

D: Sex life?
E: Same.
D: De mano lang bo pirmi?
E: No comment.
D: I'll take that as a yes (laughs).

D: If you were stuck in an island, what single item will you bring and why?
E: Lighter or matches. Siyempre, for cooking food, fending off animals, heat at night. Naks! Very practical and logical, no?

D: Still stuck on the island, which classmate would you like to be stuck with?
E: Chingga. Dipisil se. Eh di, either of my two crushes. So after a hard day's work of hunting and providing food, they can help me "relax" and go to sleep. (laughs) Para sulit tamen si man provide yo food na di miyo companion.
D: Cosa man bo ase sulit kanila?
E: Sabe ya bo.

D: Genie in a lamp grants you three wishes, what are those wishes?
E: Hmmm, simple lang. Make me a billionaire (dollars ha), give me a super hot wife and make me d best capoeirista EVER! And kere era yo super sense. Akel sabe yo si onde kanda Bin Laden, etc. To help stop terrorism. Pero bien unbelivable ya kel (laughs).

D: Describe your self using the letters of your name.
E: Earnest.. Reasonable. Joker! Open- minded! Very open minded.
D: Baka openly green minded.
E: Given ya se.

D: Next, how do you see yourself 10 years from now?
E: Richer. And with a hot babe. Seriously committed. Maybe married. Around two kids... Happy marriage, happy family.

D: Message to the roots?
E: Mga chonggo kamo. Joke. Hi, hello there.
D: TIENGGA. Inspiring tamen.
E: Pensa anay yo. Dipisil man se. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." ya lang.

Brebeufian of the Week: Rafael Derick Evangelista III

Our Brebeufian of the week is the February 6 birthday boy -- Derick Evangelista!

He was the infamous Professor Klump to Buddy Love (Carlo Potenciano), an alter ego turned best friend, in high school. But he's no Klump these days anymore. Having great determination and discipline in diet, who would have thought the the chubby political vulture of the class turns out to be a mighty eagle. Soaring high in the skies of local politics, he truly is one Brebeufian to be proud of.

He was the infamous Professor Klump to Buddy Love (Carlo Potenciano), an alter ego turned best friend, in high school. But he's no Klump these days anymore. Having great determination and discipline in diet, who would have thought the the chubby political vulture of the class turns out to be a mighty eagle (Mabibilib kayo kay Darwin sa theory ng Evolution!). Soaring high in the skies of local politics, he truly is one Brebeufian to be proud of. A lot might not wonder if soon, we'll be joining him in one of the miting de avances to perform on stage the "Iboto si Derick Evangelista" jingle, give out flyers or throw away shirts and caps! Or maybe the others might just be his partymates. NAH! He fooled me once, not again, or not unless!

It's interesting coz Mae had to do this no holds barred interview with Derick considering they had a seemingly short-but-bittersweet past. (Mae, ilang years kayong di nagpansinan ni Derick non?). But yeah, that was high school, they are better friends today. Check this out and judge for yourself.

Name: Rafael Derick Evangelista III
Status: Single
Occupation: ADZU Corporate Resource Coordinator

Mae: First question, what's your job as of the moment?
Derick: Job? There are two. One is my bread and butter: I'm the coordinator of the Ateneo Corporate Resource Office. It's the money-making and fund raising office of ADZU. Speaking of "professional beggar"? The second: I'm serving as one of the close-in political adviser and henchman of VM Beng Climaco. I enjoy the second one since it's life for me--politics. (laughs) It's pro bono. Free. I'm the adviser, henchman, manipulator, image maker and twister and all that you can think in politics that politicians need!

M: Considering that you're into politics, I'm sure everybody's asking this: Do you have any plans of running for office in the near future?
D: Plans? Yes. When? No idea. I'm in no hurry but I somehow make my involvement now as a learning experience so as to be ready. This is also why I get courses abroad that is more on government and politics para ready and may ideas. For now, play around and juggle with politics.

M: When you were younger ba, say grade school days, did you already see yourself as being involved in politics? What was your ambition ba then?
D: I believe, yes. Looks abnormal nu? But I was so engrossed already that I was aware of things happening around even as early as Grade 4. Masyado ata formal and seryoso tayo. But okay lang.

M: O siya, change topic na tayo. Let's talk about high school. Describe high school in one word.
D: Memorable -- because highschool life is only once in our lifetime. Part of what I'm now is credited to my high school days. Credit goes to the Jesuits, teachers and my classmates.

M: If high school was memorable, what was your most memorable moment? Tsaka most embarrassing moment na rin.
D: Embarassing muna. The time some classmates asked for my explanation sa Chemistry before a quiz kasi naiintindihan ko raw. Then I explained. Tapos nag-quiz na. Then marami kumuha ng score 1, tapos ako pa ang 0... Memorable? Yung mga persecutions kay Almid. Til now gusto ko pa siya tentahin. (laughs) Tsaka the simple opportunity of getting to know 42 different people and personalities which I'm going to bring in this lifetime. Knowing the people is already a blessing and a memorable one.

M: Your favorite person in highschool? Could be a teacher, friend, classmate, etc. Choose lang kahit sino. The others chose favorite teacher, meron highschool crush. Ikaw bahala which one you want.
D: Parang wala man ako paborito. Everybody had their unique good qualities (as well as tantrums) which I admired.

M: How's your lovelife?
D: Lovelife? Well, it's complicated somehow. Wala kasi nag-aapply eh. Joke! I have various targets but it remains to be hit. I'm open to the idea but my busy sked keeps me away from dwelling on it. Basta NGSB (No GF since birth). (laughs)

M: Rumor has it your into dating younger girls daw ngayon. True?
D: Rumors? Okay. But don't dwell on that. I just enjoy being with younger ones. They help me keep my sanity sometimes.

M: Pero I'm sure you've dated naman siguro. Describe your first date na lang. Who was it with, what did you do, when and where, how was it?
D: To honestly tell you, I can't even remember yung who, when, where and how was it. But if you ask me the "sort of" latest, well, it's one of the many... (beep beep beep)

M: Now, for the most uncomfortable question of all... How's your sexlife?... Trust me, kasama 'to sa mga list of questions. Pretend mo na lang I'm Pote para di dyahe sagutin.
D: I'll just answer it philosophically and diplomatically: "I am a guy and being able to appreciate and acknowledge beautiful women is normal for me to do so." O, masyado atang hi-tech and read-between-the-lines ang sagot ko.

M: Nice answer. Napakasafe. A genie comes and grants you three wishes. What would that be?
D: Genie? I'll ask for the following: (1) A winning and stable political career (2) Money for me to travel all over the world (3) A healthy life that I don't want to suffer in pain.

M: Speaking of health, how much do you weigh nga pala ngayon, Deck? What's your health regimen nowadays?
D: From a previous 230 lbs (March 2005), I went to a low of 153 lbs (December 2005). Now I'm 170 lbs. I just jog and play badminton if I have the time these days. But I eat rice once a week lang. But starting today, I won't eat rice muna maybe for the next 2-3 months. No softdrinks starting today. And since Monday, no breakfast, 1 can tuna for lunch, 1 pack Skyflakes for dinner. Lumaki na kasi. I should be at 163 lbs lang.

M: Remember yung question regarding classmate of the opposite sex that you'd choose to be stuck in a deserted island with. Who do you choose and why?
D: Si Pam.

M: Why? Wait lang, was it true niligawan mo si Pam dati? During college ba yun?
D: Pam? Di ko niligawan yun. (laughs) Grabe ya se tsismis tan kalat. Amigo lang kame... Why Pam in the island? I'm just comfortable and I feel I can talk anything to her under the sun. Pareho din kame gusto magtravel palagi.

M: If you were stuck in the island, you can bring only one thing, what would it be?
D: My camera. I'll take my chances. Wanna keep memories of the island in case nabuhay ako.

M: If there was one thing you would want to change in high school, what would it be and why?
D: My not being into student politics that early and my low interest in my studies. If I did well, studied well, that would be added points for me. If I entered politics as early as high school, whether in school or not, I might be steps ahead na now.

M: Grabe, goal-oriented gayot! What was your course nga pala in college? State your accomplishments na din back then. Alam ko active ka on a lot of stuff.
D: Graduated Computer Science. I became President of the Student Council of ADZU (2000). Became President of West MASC, a regionwide association of Student Councils. After graduating in 2002, I got invited by the US government to the International Visitor Program, belonging to the youngest group in the world age 18-24 to participate since 1949. Was with a group of 20 Southeast Asians. It's a program that has the 200 former heads and current heads of state in the alumni roster. Honestly, it is still a mystery to me why I was invited til now. Last year, I got accepted and underwent a 1-month program at the University of California, San Diego, called the Pacific Rim Summer Seminar. Both programs mentioned are all about the US GOV'T.

M: Dami nun ah. How do you see yourself 10 years from now?
D: 10 years? Hopefully with family, hopefully. Wth two kids lang. (laughs) And I must have attained enough money to travel in at least 1/2 or 3/4 of my plans na.

M: Councilor ya? Or Vice Mayor?
D: Can't tell. Don't want to pass by the council. Aim is City Administrator and from there start the climb. (laughs) Walang action sa council.

M: Any message to the Brebeuf Roots?
D: Wishing everyone the best in life, career, family. I know we will all be successful regardless the various spears of influence we are in. I'll always be here to help and support you in your endeavors.

Derick can be reached throught this e-mail address: rafdeck@yahoo.com.

And to answer your question, Cabil, mga TWO YEARS yun. - Mae

Editorial 1: Ang Sama Ko Talaga!

Okay. So I admit.

They were incredibly funny. I was laughing my ass off when I read them. And when I told them to another classmate, we were both spurting hot coffee to each other and laughing our asses off despite the fact that we weren't the only customers in Cafe Aroma.

But be nice naman, please.

The webmaster reminded me that the website was made for the purpose of reminiscing about the good and funny times during our high school days, not to continually persecute those we made fun of back then. It was not to continue belittling them and making them feel left out, as if we had never left the four walls of our high school classroom. They have moved on and made a good name for themselves since 1997 so let's not drag them back to the times they probably never want to look back to ever again.

So, wag masyadong mean, okay?

We reserve the right to delete those post and comments which we feel may hurt someone's feelings. We will especially take into consideratuion those that were written for our overly sensitive classmates. But worry not, for we will leave as it is, those which are incredibly funny and which we feel that the people concerned will not mind being posted at all.

So, para kayong nabuhusan ng tubig, ano?

O siya. To make up for it, here's something from fourth year high school that I just heard recently:

Fr. James: Guys, there will be a 1 peso fine for everytime may magtenta kay Almid.
One of the boys: Anda ya kita na canteen! Manda yo sinsilya un peso un peso di mi P20!

Hehehe. Peace!

Brebeufian of the Week: Ma. Celeste Lea Amor M. Bellotindos-Pangandaman

Since it's her birthday week, our Brebeufian of the week is no other than Ma. Celeste Lea Amor M. Bellotindos-Pangandaman!

If there was one non-conformist in every group, Celeste would be it for the Magic Eight. This tall, slighty tomboyish gal with a sensitive heart, a predilection for “Sorry Cards”, thin shafted ballpens and small Sans serif 8 fonts surprised us all by joining the PMA, getting married (albeit not really a secret, pero parang ganon na rin yun, considering that no one in the class knew about it at first) and being one of the first few mommies in the batch. Considering that not many of us are able to keep in touch with her, this interview is probably the most information that we have gotten out of her out for the past 9 years since highschool. Cels, we miss you, girl! Magparamdam ka naman sana once in a while. Hehehe…

Name: Ma. Celeste Lea Amor Bellotindos-Pangandaman
Status: Married
Occupation: Deputy G3 for Admin and Operations

C: Now yo prigunta stuff? Mga tanong ni Mae to. Ako lang taga-tanong (laughs).

Cels: What man you will ask? Can I answer "No Comment"?
C: Hinde daw kasi man imbento daw le sagot pag no answer or no comment bo (laughs).
Cels: Ok… shoot…

C: How is married life?
Cels: I have a very happy married life. My husband's name is Jabbar Ali Pangandaman. He is a first lieutenant in the Philippine Army. Slightly more than a year kami before we got married. He is 28 years old now. We met in one of our schoolings in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija. We got married last 25 June 2004 in Quezon City, Manila.

C: Describe naman your wedding day. Kahit konti lang… I mean, ang feeling mo on that day, aside from the usual very happy feeling, hehe.
Cels: No one else was there except him and me and the solemnizing officer… (laughs) It was a civil wedding. We cannot marry in church kasi he is a Muslim and I am a Christian… (I felt) Excited, thrilled, nervous and scared!... Scared of what our parents would say if they found out. Wala namang kasing ibang nakakaalam except the two of us eh… Nalaman lang ng Magic 8 nung manganak na ako last 16 August 2005… I know nagalit or nagtampo sila sa akin. Alam nina Mae na nanganak ako pero hindi nila ako binisita sa hospital kasi nagtatampo yata sila.

(Hirit ako! In defense of the Magic 8, hindi kami nagtatampo ke Celeste. We found out about it by accident from Celeste’s mom and not Celeste herself. We weren’t sure if she wanted us to know, kasi we figured that if she did, she would have told us and not yung malalaman pa namin galing sa ibang tao. So, we didn’t visit her anymore kasi baka ayaw niya ring makita kami… So, may point naman kami di ba? – Ed)

C: Yung parents mo?
Cels: We told them nung buntis na ako. Nung 2 months pregnant na ako, saka nila nalaman.

C: What's your daughter's name?
Cels: Jenan Lyca Bellotindos Pangandaman - 1 year, 2 months.

C: Anong feeling nung buntis ka?
Cels: (Laughs)… Ano ba namang tanong yan?... Excited.. Wala naman akong pinaglihian. Mahilig lang talaga akong matulog…. After 12 hours of labor and in so much pain, Caesarian Section din pala bagsak ko (laughs). Maliit lang naman yung baby. 6 lbs and 12 ounce pero na cord-coil sya, ewan ko kung tama ang term ko pero yun yung umikot yung pusod nya sa leeg nya.
C: Anong pusod... AMBILICAL cord? (Humirit pa, no? –Ed)

C: Nung nag graduate ka, any awards?
Cels: Wala.. rank 56 ako out of 139… Hindi ako ang typical na army na nakikipag giyera. Nasa Engineer Brigade ako. More on the constructions kami like constructions ng mga roads, buildings, water systems, etc..

C: O, describe high school in one word... When you look back, ano naiisip mo? But one word lang.
Cels: "Friends"… Hindi sya nagdedescribe ng high school pero yan yung kung ano ako nagkaroon.

C: Most memorable and embarassing moment sa HS?
Cels: Ano ba naman ito? Slum book? (laughs)… During one of the Ateneo Fiesta, may isang booth ang college dun na where they will take a picture of your crush then palagyan nila ng dedication. Yun.. meron akong dalawa na pinakuha, dun pa rin sa bahay nakatago. Hindi ko lang sure kung saan ko naitago.
C: Sino yung pinapicture mo? Kilala ko ba yan? Di ko na maalala crush mo dati.
Cels: Never mind mentioning names na (laughs).

C: Okay, lets proceed… Favorite person in high school.
Cels: Father Gascon! Sunshine girl ako, eh.

C: One thing you could change sa HS experience?
Cels: Wala. Kasi kung meron, hindi ganito ang kalabasan. At kontento naman ako sa nangyari sa buhay ko.

C: First date... sino, saan, any memorable moments?
Cels: Wala. Better forgotten… (laughs)

C: How’s sex life na lang?
Cels: It's good kung magkasama kami. Pero mostly bad kasi malayo man naka-assign hubby ko. Wala naman akong ibang partner… (laughs)

C: O, what or who is your biggest sexual fantasy?
Cels: Wala eh. Satisfied naman ako.

C: Describe yourself using your name.
Cels: Ang hirap naman nyan..
C - Care and
E - Everlasting
L - Love's for
S – Sure… (laughs)… Charing!

C: If you will get stuck on an island, anong dadalhin mo?
Cels: Family picture. Para kahit sa picture man lang hindi ako mangungulila. Charing!!

C: Given a choice, sino sa Brebeufians gusto mo makasama sa island?
Cels: Naku! Mangdamay pa ako ng klasmeyt sa island!... Si Norman… (laughs)… crush ko man sya dati. Wala… Tititigan ko na lang sya… Hindi ko kasi yun nagawa nung high school tayo eh.
C: Titigan lang, ha?... Talaga lang, ha?
Cels: Oo.. May asawa na ako eh, and faithful ako.
C: Kung walang asawa?
Cels: Kung wala akong asawa, I would probably seduce him! (laughs)... Patay ako nito… Oy, kung i-publish nyo ito, huwag nyo naman i-cut ang ibang details… Please.

C: Genie in a bottle grants you 3 wishes… ano mga yun?
Cels: Mahirap yan ah… Better career, strength, and great health for my daughter.

C: How do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Cels: Retired from the military service and having my own business. Para more time sa family ko. 2 more kids... 3 lahat.

C: Last na. Message to the Brebeufians
Cels: I just hope na one of these days I could find time at may oras din kayo para magkita-kita tayo para ma-update natin ang isa't isa… para sa lahat especially sa Magic 8, though I don't really keep in touch with you often, you are always remembered in my thoughts and prayers. Ingat lang lagi. Yun lang…

Dream Boys & Girls

Most people barely remember what they dream about and only a relatively lucky few do. Out of the 16 Brebeuf people who were asked, five do not recall of any dream involving his/her Brebeuf classmates. Apparently, poor ang memory ng iba. As for the rest, suplado-slash-maarte lang talaga… Mga walang pakisama! Leche!

by Mae Arevalo

It is said that dreams are subconscious desires that are kept hidden and manifest only when you are asleep. They are somewhat similar to the words that come out of your mouth when one is extremely drunk: when it has already been said, you end up wondering why. When you’re so drunk and you end up telling that guy you’ve been eyeing on since grade school that he has a nice ass, you wonder why you said that when in fact, he’s incredibly skinny. When you end up dreaming of French kissing that high school classmate of yours whom you’ve barely spoken to for the past 10 years, you wonder why him, of all people.

Leche!

Question: Which Brebeuf classmate have you dreamt about?

The ULTIMATE DREAM BOY is:

EDMAR RUSTE – 2 votes
- “Pero first year pa po yun. Hinagilap daw niya ako sa isang tabi and gently nagkiss kami, as in na-feel ko talaga. Kay pag-gising ko, crush ko na siya agad. Hay naku! Half naman ata ng lalake sa Brebeuf naging crush ko, hehehe.”
- “I dreamt of Mark Ruste. We were kissing. Go figure.”

The DREAM BOYS AND GIRLS nominees are:

KATHRYN ANNE RAMOS – 1 vote
- Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lie. Hahaha… Siyempre, R18 kasi… Hahaha…”

DINO ZANDRO MAS – 1 vote
- Damn! Hehehe… I dreamt of a threesome with Dino Mas, me and my boyfriend, while my college classmates were watching. Wag na ang details, masyadong malaswa. Basta, yun na yun. Only God knows why. Hehehe.”

MA.CARMELA TAGUINOD – 1 vote
- “Nuway man ata highshool classmate na miyo dream except Carms… Censored. We’re not that close.”

DINO CHRISTIAN DAÑO – 1 vote
- “Hot make-out session with Daño in my bedroom. Pero hanggang dun lang naman. Bata pa ako nun, eh.”

AILYN MALACA – 1 vote
- “Last night lang napanaginipan ko siya! Can’t remember na all the details pero about parlor man yun. Pinapunta daw niya ako sa palor para ayusin yung hair ko and magpamake-up. Tapos, P4,000 daw singil nila. Si Ailyn daw pinabayad ko kasi P1,000 lang pera ko! Haha!”

NORMAN GABOT- 1 vote
- “Si Norman. Hahaha! Medyo bastos nga. O, you better keep your mouth shut kay I will kill you.”

MA. PAMELA ALFARO – 1 vote
- “Pam. Been dreaming of finally being able to take that around the world tour together!”

PAUL BRYAN NEIL TAMAYO – 1 vote
- “Na, I dreamt of Paul Tamayo. I saw him kasi last December. He’s working alya onde chene yo racket.” (At hindi mo sinagot ang tanong, hehehe –Ed)

ADELE ESPALDON – 1 vote
- “OB-Gyne ko daw si Adele, hehe. Wish ko lang na preggy ako kahit conceived by the Holy Spirit effect, puwede na. Namiss ko lang ang bruha kaya siguro napapanaginipan ko siya.”

SHEMANE CORDOVA – 1 vote
- “Halos lahat napanaginipan ko na pero the most remarkable are the Sampalan Scene with an angry Shemane tsaka yung naughty kissing scene with (guess who). Haha.”

Fadu and Adele's Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy, House, M.D., Strong Medicine, E.R., Medical Investigations, 3 lbs… Medical-related TV shows are not just fantasy for these two bright young doctors but a reality that they have to live through for the rest of their lives. In a world where doctors are all taking up Nursing to pursue dreams of earning dollars, it is a noble thing to find that two of our Brebeuf classmates had chosen to pursue medicine and are now fully-fledged licensed physicians. This interview was done in the hopes of trying to see the inner workings of two crazy Brebeuf ladies, who were previously known for their insane, occasionally tomboyish, playful, funny ideas, and to see why they, of all people, had chosen to pursue such a serious, rigid and occasionally unrewarding, profession.

What was your ambition when you were young?

Fadu: I don't know nga eh. Lawyer man siguro kay madaldal man daw ako. Pwede rin artista. Hahaha! Biro lang.

Adele: Maging cashier sa grocery store.....ganda kasi ng tunog pag pumipindot.

Why did you go into medicine?

F: Kasi kung hindi ako mag-med, walang patutunguhan ang buhay ko, hehehe. Hello! BS Psychology! Hindi naman ako mahilig sa chika with strangers. Ewan ko ba. Bulao gad yo antes.

A: (a) Honestly, its not to serve people, but to promote a name for myself. It is the ideal career choice. It's what every parent dreamed of for their children. (b) To earn more money (c) Umuulan ng gwapo sa Medicine... Unfortunately, 50% of them happened to be jerks, and another 50% are gays (d) Anyway, we are a family of doctors, so, why not go with the flow? (e) Malakas kasi ang dating!

Was there a time you regretted taking up Med?

F: Oooh yes! Yun bang your so kapuy na, lost pa and you always ask yourself "What the f**k am I doing here? Waaaah!." Pero in the end naman, marealize mo na buti na lng hindi ako nag-give up. Sayang eh.

A: Hahaha, madalas! Up until now!

Any memorable / funny / embarrassing moments during your experience as a Medstudent/Clerk/Intern?

F: Hirap naman nito, galing pa ko ng duty, bulao pa iyo, hehe. Pwede bang hndi medically related? Hehehe. Nung nakilala ko si Loverboy na lng. hahaha! Si Choie po, boyfriend ko… Yung first time kong makakita nag venous cut down sa isang few days old na baby. (Hindi mahanap ang vein para ma-insert ng IV, so hiwa ang skin at hanapin). Ay na, serka ya yo desma! As in putla, malamig pa sa yelo. Konti na lng, nasa floor na ako, hehehe. First year ako nun.

A: Ang dami! During my med student days, I had two boyfriends at the same time, one for the weekdays, and one for the weekends. They never crossed paths. Then, when I had my internship at Manila Doctors, naging co-intern ko rin ISA sa mga kalaguyo ng ex-boyfriend ko! Hehe, galing talaga ng co-incidence... or should I say, lumiliit lang talaga ang mundo. And guess what, ka-intern ko rin pala si Jen Romo and Karlou Mutia--fellow Ateneans. During my residency now, I’m branded as the "Kalawit Queen." Ilang pasyente nang nadadaanan ko at bigla na lang namamatay!

Memorable patient case?

F: Napaka-serious naman ng mga tanong na’to. Hindi kaya naboboro ang nagbabasa, hello?
Pwede next question? Hehehe. Or next time na lang.

A: Direct Inguinal Hernia.... isang baklang may napakalaking BALLS! Penile Carcinoma (Cancer of the Penis)—I’m the one who actually did the penectomy (removal of the penis) under the guidance of the resident who happened to be my cousin.

What specialization did you choose and why?

F: Hahaha! Yes, Obstetrics and Gynecology. In other words, todol dia ta chucha... Yes, you got it right, very good. My choice was either Pediatrics or Ob-Gyne.

Where are you affiliated now?

F: Cebu City Medical Center. It’s a public hospital. So hinde sosyal, hehehe. Sorry Adelle, hehehe... There are many cases as compared to private hospitals, and "the legend" ang bossing namin si Dr. Rebecca Gucor. So, nandito ako.

A: I’m currently a first year resident of Internal Medicine at Manila Doctors Hospital, UN Avenue, Manila.

Are you earning? How much?

F: Public hospital nga eh. Not that much, enough lang. Wala pa nga sweldo ko, noh! Delay forever pa ang sweldo.

A: Maliit lang. 12 thousand a month. Isn’t it ironic?

Perks on the job?

F: Kasi in fairness, mabait ang mga kasama kong residents at magaling. So, kahit far away from home for the first time ever, at least hinde naman mahirap mag-adjust.

A: (a) Adorable co-residents/ interns/ patients/ bantay ng patients, etc (b) Being able to "truly" treat the patient

Regrets / complaints sa job mo ngayon?

F: Wala pa naman. Bago pa lang ako. Pre-residency nung December, nagstart January 16.

A: (a) STUPID NURSES of Manila Doctors... Pls. lang ha... Pwede bang gamitin naman ang utak? (b) Having so much time for the patients (to the point of entertaining even a tiny pimple sa singit. Arte kasi ng mga pasyente sa Manila Doctors), but having NO time for yourself (Makasuklay lang, masaya na ako!)

Saan ka nag-medschool and ano grades mo sa board?

F: Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine, formerly Zamboanga Medical School Foundation Inc… Grade Hahahahaha?! Ano sayo, del?

A: Proud to be a Thomasian! (UST). Grades ko sa boards? Syempre, secret ko na yun. Dami ko na ngang nasabing sikreto for the sake of making this blog interesting, hehe.

Memorable experiences nung review/board, if any...

F: Nakakatulog sa review most of the time. As in! Ikaw ba naman buong araw nakikinig sa lasangan na topics. Biochemistry, my ass! I'd rather read on my own, hehehe. Board? Madaming gwapo sa room namin. Hahaha!

A: Just read my blog sa Friendster. (Go to her blog) May tips pa dun! Honestly, I never studied that hard, swertehan lang kasi yan. Dont be tooooooooooo religious. Kahit ilang santo pa ang dinasalan mo, wala ring mangyayari if mali ang style mo sa pag-aaral.

OC ka ba? If so, ano mga ka-OChan mo?

F: Paminsan-minsan lang. Umiinit ang ulo pag matagal gumalaw ang mga tao sa paligid, hehehe. Joke lang. “Na ma’am, muri ya el pasyente, apura ya!”

A: Yups... Never rely on hand-outs alone.

Anong favorite mong ginagawa sa job mo ngayon? Example: nagtatahi, nagchechekup ng breasts, etc...

F: Ta chucha? Joke! Nagpapaanak.

A: Magduty kasama crush ko, hehehe, walang kwenta talaga… Ayokong magtahi. I love diagnosing and managing patients. Gusto ko lang mag-isip, ayoko ng gawa, kaya Internal Medicine pinili ko

Any role models na doctor?

F: Wala man, hehehe. Pwede ba si Dr. Shepard ng Grey's Anatomy? Gwapo!

A: Dr. Jose Rizal...naks! Dapat ganito mga hirit!

Are you dating someone in the same field?

F: Nge! Corny naman oh. My boyfriend of... FIVE years ata, hehehe. MD rin, classmate ko sa Medskul. Nasa bundok sya ngayon ngcommunity service because scholar po, so payback.

A: Yups, my boyfriend, kaso hindi pa sya nagboboard exam, at long distance relationship ang set-up namin ngayon. So still partially searching....

Have you ever dated your resident/consultant/nurse?

F: Ibang doktor ang tanungin mo, not me. Hahaha!... No.

A: Hmmm...still planning...hehehe

Will you pose in a swimsuit centerfold in a mag? If not, kahit scrubsuit lang with undies?

F: Nge! Insulto ba ito ha? Gusto mo ng upak? Hahaha! Scrubsuit na lng. Di naman kailangan ipakita ang katawan para masabing sexy. O ha? Idol! Hahaha.

A: Of course! Sexy ko na nga ngayon, eh! Hehe

Any medical booboo?

F: Nge! In fairness, wala naman. May nakaaway lang na nanay, doktor, etc. Mga ganun lang, hehehe.

A: During my Medtech years, when I was about to collect the blood of the donor, I just realized that I accidentally dropped the needle of the blood bag. And take note, ang tagal kong hinanap, only to realize na natapakan ko pala. Eh bawal magtapon ng blood bag. So, sa sobrang kaba ko, syempre, sinaksak ko na lang ng basta- basta sa arm ng donor and just went on with the blood collection. Hanggang ngayon, I’m still wondering anong nagyari sa donor... buhay pa kaya yun?

If you were a medical apparatus, what are you and why?

F: Grabe namang tanong yan… Penlight na lang. Masisilaw ka pag tititigan mo ako. Ganun ako kaganda. Joke lang!

A: Im a rectal thermometer. Hirap ng buhay ko ngayon, laging puyat and stressful. Anong connection nun sa rectal thermometer? Wala lang, if you were a rectal thermometer, who wouldn't be stressed out pag lagi kang sinusundot sa pwet ng ibang tao?

Do you see yourself as a good doctor? Be honest, haha.. How do you see yourself in 5-10 years time?

F: Good man siguro. Alangan naman, noh! In 5-10 years... Eh di, trabaho pa rin! Forever na ito eh. Wala na akong magawa, hehehe.

A: That I guarantee! I see myself as happily married, with 2-3 kids, offering FREE medical service to my fellow Brebeufians!

Fill in the blanks: Wish ko lang maging pasyente ko si....

F: Kahit sino, basta wag lang matigas ang ulo. Kahit presidente ka pa o artista, wag mag-inarte ha?

A: John Lloyd Cruz. I'll make a thorough physical examination on him.

Sa brebeuf, sana maging pasyente ko si… kasi…

A: Shemane, kasi Im glad to be of service to the people I’m close to.

Any message for Edmar, Almid and Mae na gagraduate na rin soon from Medicine?

A: Make sure may kasama kayong mag-aral for the Boards. Believe me, ang hirap mag-aral ng mag-isa, at siguradong tatamarin ka. Time management lang, and a gallon of self-discipline. Quality studying instead of quantity studying. Hindi ganun kahirap ang medicine, just love what you're doing.

Any special offers for the brebeufians?

F: Hahaha! Kere ba kamo maga mujeres ha? Parang... eeeewww! joke lng. Text me lang anytime.

A: Of course, free consultation....I’m just one text or one e-mail away. Free rectal exam and breast examination --walang malisya, hehehe.

What "R" are you in right now? (disposition mo ngayon at this point of your life that starts w R)

F: Rest and recreation. I wish! RESTORATION... nang mga nagisi na mga vagina ng mga nanganak. O, you asked for it ha?

A: Retardation
